Testimonial of the Month

As a high school junior our son was recruited to a lot of colleges for lacrosse but needed to pull up his scores 100 points on both the verbal and math sections. With your tutoring, his scores went up 300 points and he was accepted to Brown, Bucknell, SU, West Point and Bryant with great scholarships. Thank you for your help!

SIGN UP EARLY FOR OUR SAT CLASSES

Classes are already forming for the winter and spring SAT test dates, especially at our convenient Latham location. Avoid disappointment and prepare early for the May 3 and June 7 dates. Our classes are small, effective, and popular!

We teach in Latham, Saratoga Springs, and Albany.

Many of our SAT students were ecstatic when they received their scores from the May, June or October exams. Many went up 80-120 points in their toughest sections and scored much higher in the other sections as well. Hooray for them! We are very excited that they reached or even exceeded their target SAT scores.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO PREPARE CORRECTLY FOR YOUR TEST DAY

Because the SAT is given on Saturday morning, you should resist the temptation to stay up late on Friday night. Eat a good dinner which includes protein, carbohydrates, and a vegetable, and see how this practice will work wonders for your brain on Saturday morning. Don't study - just relax and go to bed early. Then eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning.

ITEMS TO BRING TO THE EXAM:

  • Your admission ticket and photo ID
  • 2-3 pencils
  • Calculator (Graphing or scientific are permitted. Four-function calculators are not recommended.)
  • A watch (without audible alarm)
  • Water bottles (1-2)
  • 1-2 Energy bars for the breaks
  • Tissues
  • Layered clothing

TIPS FOR SMART LEARNING: Big Mind Learning encourages all of our students to follow common-sense but often-ignored practices for success both in school and on the SAT and ACT. Three of these techniques based on brain research follow.

  1. Retain information best by studying in multiple locations. Move around the house or other study area while reviewing concepts.

  2. Limit your focused time studying for quizzes and tests to 20-30 uninterrupted minutes per study session. That’s the amount of time that the brain can handle. Take a 5 or 10 minute exercise break and begin studying again.

  3. Make a study plan and stick to it by being accountable every week to one mentor or parent.

OUR SAT and ACT PROGRAM SUCCEEDS!

We break down standardized tests to fundamental concepts, gradually building strategies and skills to help students understand each topic. We give a clear idea of how to approach problem types that students know, as well as problems that they have never seen before. This approach of teaching and review demystifies the test and builds confidence.

Our methods at Big Mind Learning aid memory and melt anxiety. When the test day arrives, it doesn’t loom like a threat but is approached with confidence and success. Join us!
